ATTRACTING THE YOUNG TO THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT SECTOR

2 August 2013

The BCA-Industry Built Environment Scholarship Award Ceremony 2013 was held on 2 August at the Raffles City Convention Centre. BCA and 45 built environment firms awarded a record 166 undergraduate and diploma scholarship awards at the ceremony, a 50% increase from last year. Of these, 55 were awarded to SDE students.

More than 1,000 applications were received this year. These young scholars will play a key role in transforming the built environment sector in the areas of championing green buildings, adopting advance construction technology for higher productivity, and delivering a user-friendly built environment for a fast ageing population.

What is even more heartening is the rise in number of females entering the sector. Almost half of the recipients for the BCA-Industry Built Environment Scholarship 2013 are females, a two-fold increase from 2010. With an increasingly conducive working environment being facilitated through off-site prefabrication and technology adoption, the sector is set to welcome more females.
