The “Vertical Cities Asia International Design Competition: Everyone Contributes” Exhibition and a book by the same title have been launched officially. Officiated by Dr Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development & Ministry of Trade and Industry, the exhibition features 18 design schemes visioning of the Paya Lebar Airbase land for new paradigm of sustainable high density living contributed by participating student teams from 10 universities around the world. The exhibition is now open till 26 July at National Design Centre.
The fifth Vertical Cities Asia International Design Competition: Everyone Contributes was part of an annual series that began in 2011. The purpose of the competition was to foster the development of ideas and theories in urban and architectural form related to density, liveability and sustainability specific to the rapid and exponential growth of urbanism in Asia. The theme “Everyone Contributes” emphasized the idea of community, networks, resource sharing, circular economy, collaboration, adaptability and resilience. The competition series was organized by SDE and sponsored by World Future Foundation and Beijing Vantone Citylogic Investment Corporation.
