SDE is honoured to have hosted President S.R. Nathan, President of the Republic of Singapore and NUS Chancellor, on his visit to the School on 7 April 2009.
With NUS President Prof Tan Chorh Chuan and Provost Prof Tan Eng Chye also in attendance, President Nathan was given a guided tour of SDE by SDE Dean Prof Heng, the School Management Committee and academic staff. The tour commenced with a presentation on the School followed by a review of exhibits at the Department of Architecture's 50th Anniversary Celebration. Thereafter, President Nathan was given demonstrations on indoor air quality research and visualisation technologies at the Department of Building's Field Environmental Chamber and Digital Space Laboratory before adjourning to the exhibition hall for tea and interaction with SDE students and staff. Prof Heng then presented President Nathan a small token of an elegantly-designed 'home-made' fruit bowl produced at SDE's design studios as a small token of appreciation.
